Be A Better Human

In 2017 (and more recently in 2021), The Australian Human Rights Commission conducted the National Student Safety Survey of university students, including students here at QUT, and released the 2017 National Report on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment at Australian Universities. The report made many recommendations for universities to adopt. Although we have made some great progress, we believe we can do better. We want everyone here at QUT to want to Be A Better Human and help make QUT a safe and respectful place.

Be A Better Human is an initiative which has been adapted by many universities to help students understand all those complicated subjects like Sexual Harassment, Consent, Respect, Sexual Assault and Being An Active Bystander. It was created based on student culture and from listening to what students want to know.

The campaign is called Be A Better Human, because we don’t just want it to be about what we shouldn’t do; we want it to be about self-improvement for everyone. And when we say ‘everyone’, we really do mean everyone. We’re encouraging everyone who is part of our campus community to take a moment and consider how we can ‘better’ our behaviour.

Let’s figure out how we can all be better humans.
