Abilities Officer

Cassandra Grey

I’m Cassandra. I’m in my final year of my Bachelor of Laws (Hons) after a long five years. I acquired my disability at the end of 2017. I use a wheelchair full-time and I’m hard of hearing. I joined the Guild because I’m passionate about disability/accessibility and I wanted to build on the great progress that has been made in recent years in raising awareness of disability at QUT. As the Guild Abilities Officer I represent students who identify as having a disability, chronic illness or mental health needs. I also raise awareness of issues surrounding disability on campus and in the wider community.

In 2021 I plan to identify and fix barriers for students with disabilities on both campuses, work with other collectives and societies to increase accessibility as well as assist individual students as needed. I’m an active student representative at QUT currently co-chair of a working group designing a Disability Inclusion Action Plan for QUT and virtually attended the United Nations Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as an NGO representative.
